I got a phone call from Aleisha in shipping this morning and she said she needed my expert opinion. So I walked over to her department and there she was, feet up on her desk staring at her silver sandals. “What do you think of these?” she asked me. “Do I like them? Yes. But what are the other options?” I replied. Then she proceeded to take these off and slip on these interesting gold wedges and parade around the shipping department. I told her I honestly liked the silver sandals over the gold, but the entire male staff in shipping said the gold shoes were better because of the heel. I guess men just can’t resist a lady in heels. When I come into work every morning the first person that I see is Ms. Allie Q., editor of 18eighteen magazine. It never gets very cold in Miami so there is a whole category of shoe we are generally deprived of around here. We may get to wear hundreds of sandals with ribbons, straps and frilly things, but we hardly ever get to wear boots. That is why the minute the weather shifts to our “Winter”, which isn’t very serious at all at temperatures of 55 degrees, we women in Miami drag out all our boots in an attempt to wear them in the four to five days that it will be cold. There is something about a pair of red patent leather pumps that fascinates me. I own about 10 pairs of different red pumps, like these, and I love each pair. When I was a little girl, I would watch old movies with starlets like Greta Garbo and Katherine Hepburn and marvel at their beautiful shoes and dresses. I would play dress up in my mother’s clothing and try to look as glamorous as possible. So when I saw these shoes in a vintage shop, I had to have them. I love the bow and the razor-thin wooden heels. Although they do come across as a bit pompous, and I will admit that they are a little uncomfortable after a couple of hours, I can’t help but love them because they are so whimsical. The bow makes my feet look like gifts! Sigh, if only I had a lucky man to give my feet to.
